Urgent legal appointments available for women living with abuse

Photo of woman adding appointment to her planner.

With the re-introduction of 'stay at home' measures across Scotland, we want to make sure women experiencing abuse are able to get the legal support and advice they need. This is why we are offering urgent legal appointments again.

We know that home might not be a safe place and that lockdown restrictions can make it harder to get legal advice. If this is your situation and you need urgent legal advice, please keep reading to find out how to access one of our urgent legal appointments.

Appointments will be available while the ‘stay at home’ measures are in place.

Making an appointment

To access our urgent legal appointments the first step is to contact our legal helpline.

When you call, our solicitors will assess whether an urgent legal appointment is the best option and offer you a time slot.

Appointments take place on Tuesdays, 11am to 2pm, they last up to 1 hour and can be done over telephone or video call, depending on your preference.

What issues count as ‘urgent’?

Each case is unique so it is impossible to list every specific situation. However, some examples include situations where someone is threatening or harassing you at home or where there is an urgent deadline in your legal case.

Again, these are only some examples and our solicitors will work with you to consider whether an urgent legal appointment would be best or suggest any of our other legal and advocacy services.

Keeping safe during your legal appointment

Your safety is very important to us. Therefore, if you decide to contact our services we ask that you find a safe and comfortable space to make the call.

We know that 'stay at home' measures can feel stressful and uncertain, and we would encourage you to get in touch with organisations and services that offer emotional and practical support. You can find a list of support services available for women during the pandemic here.
