What are the possible outcomes of a complaint?

Possible outcomes

There are a number of possible outcomes to a complaint. The police may decide to:

  • take no further action
  • review or change a policy, process or procedure
  • apologise
  • give officers more training, counselling or advice
  • discipline an officer.

Can I get financial compensation?

You will not get financial compensation through a police complaint. For more information about legal action and claiming compensation, please see section 8 of this guide.
